Tara Jerman, Residential agent at Knight Frank Dublin discusses working from home, adapting to new technologies and keeping fit and active.
Where are you in Lockdown?
I am at home in Dalkey with my husband and two teenage children. I count myself very lucky being in such an incredible area, close to the sea, magnificent walks through Dalkey and along the Vico Road with stunning views all the way to the Wicklow Mountains, the beautiful old worldly Bullock Harbour and Coliemore Harbour. Unlike bigger towns Dalkey really has a village feel, residence have resided her for years so there is a great sense of community and camaraderie.
Have you become a Masterchef during Covid and if so what have you been cooking?
While we do eat healthy as a family and I adore food, Cooking has never been a passion of mine. It has always been very simple style cooking here. I was pleasantly surprised that my children decided that they would experiment with some wonderful dishes so that got me off the hook!
Have you taken up any new hobbies?
I have always kept myself very active and love all things outdoors. Once the sports clubs closed, fast pace walking became an important routine of mine, that sense of peace yet being enegized sets you up for whatever the day throws at you.
While gardening is not a new hobby for me it’s an ongoing one!
Do you have any tips to stay focused and motivated during this time?
It’s important to be disciplined and to have a routine. Every morning we have our team zoom calls at 10.30am. It’s incredible important to remember that while we do work independently we are a team and our success depends on everyone’s hard work, when you don’t lose sight of that you won’t want to let others down and that keeps you motivated to succeed.
What have been your go-to lockdown TV shows?
I jumped between many shows! Sky documentaries is a new channel and I’m hooked on that. It was a channel that was around many years ago so I am thrilled to see it back.
How has your day to day work changed over the last 6 weeks?
My day to day work has changed and one I will keep going forward. I made a conscious decision to focus on my calendar and time management. I have learnt a lot with all the new technology and the different ways people wanted to communicate, discuss and view properties.
I got to know my clients more as I enjoyed keeping them connected and regularly updated via video calls. Having easy access to the Knight Frank market research, podcasts and everything else on offer is very helpful for me and my clients.
I was eligible to sit a SCSI exam which I did and I’m now an associate member.
If there could be any positive to take from the pandemic, what would it be?
Making more time and effort with others outside your immediate circle!
