Sustainability Initiatives at the Oval

Our Property Asset Management team are focusing on some super sustainability initiatives in The Oval in Ballsbridge, and will be rolling out these projects into more of our buildings under management. The Oval team is led by Ciaran McDonnell, the facilities manager for the scheme.

  • The Oval was accredited with The City Bin Co.’s Zero Project Certificate, officially being a zero waste to landfill site. In August 2020, Alison O’Neill let the team at The Oval increasing recycling rates, whilst making cost savings at the same time. They agreed a Zero Waste roadmap to success with The Oval team. The Zero Waste plan has been successfully implemented, and currently, the site has seen an 84% reduction in weekly general waste.

  • We saw the opening of our new Bug Hotel at The Oval just outside our existing Bee Garden.  The Bee Garden delivered the first supply of honey last week.

  • Installation of new rainwater collection system completed three weeks ago at The Oval, Shelbourne Road.  Rainwater harvesting is the collection and storage of rain, rather than allowing it to run off. Rainwater is collected from a roof-like surface and redirected to a tank, cistern, deep pit, aquifer, or a reservoir with percolation, so that it seeps down and restores the ground water.
